OUR HISTORY

In the Fall of 1956, Delta Phi Omega was founded at Sacramento State College. DPO was founded for the promotion of the highest ideals of citizenship, scholarship, and brotherhood. The mascot of Delta Phi Omega was an English Bulldog, which was carried over as a local tradition to Sigma Phi Epsilon after SigEp's founding at Sacramento State College in 1963. The California Theta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was chartered September 1, 1963 when the institution was called Sacramento State College. The chapter has been continuously active since its founding in 1956 and chartering in 1963, making it the longest continually active chapter in California. Thus in 1963 after years of dominating the Greek System at Sac State the men of Delta Phi Omega petitioned the Grand National Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, in Richmond, VA to become a SigEp colony. SigEp was the National affiliate of choice because of their commitment to excellence and their commitment to their local chapters. With the highest GPA requirement and their emphasis on becoming Balanced Men SigEp had a stellar national reputation. Thus after a little over a year of being a colony the once men of Delta Phi Omega became men of Sigma Phi Epsilon and brought with them years of domination. SigEp at Sac State has upheld a long tradition of excellence. We not only strive for excellence on the playing field but also in the class room, around campus, and in the community. We continually have more members involved in other campus organizations and in various positions of leadership than any other chapter on campus. Furthermore, we believe in giving back to community. Therefore, we constantly do community service projects and support or philanthropic endeavors. This chapters efforts combined with our campus and community involvement and our top ranking chapter GPA has earned us the Dean's Trophy 6 out of the last 7 years. The Dean Trophy is awarded to the top chapter on campus in all areas of programming and performance.
